In February 2008 our 7 1/2 year old Boxer, Sampson, had to have TPLO surgery on his back left leg. We were told it would be an intense surgery and an even more intense recovery period of 12 weeks. At Sampson's 8 week check up he still had a definite limp and some days he was still hopping on one leg, so his surgeon recommended swim therapy to help him in the recovery process. My husband and I both laughed because Sampon does not like water, but we told the surgeon we would try anything to get Sampson back to his pre-injury condition.

When we took Sampson for his first appointment we explained to the staff that he was having a lot of trouble using his back left leg and that he did not like water so this would be a challenge. They assured us they would be able to get Sampson in the water and they explained how they would use a long lead to help guide him through the pool. The staff was WONDERFUL! They were very gently with Sampson and made sure to give him enough breaks throughout his 15 minute session since he had been inactive for two months.

Sampson has been going to Canine Fitness for a couple of months now and he no longer walks with a limp or hops on one leg and he is actually running again! Also, the surgeon had thought they may have to do the same surgery on Sampson's right rear leg, but when we went for his follow up appointment they were amazed by how much he had improved since he had been going to Canine Fitness. And the best new the surgeon gave us was that at this point it doesn't look like he will have to have surgery on his right leg. YEAH!!!!
